About to install new components...

Well, after a couple weeks of layaway, I have finally picked up my JL ZR-650 CSi Components. Many thanks to Lee and the guys at Radioactive in Burlington. Those guys are awesome.

So here's my plan:

I will be rebuilding the lower half of my door panels and building them out of fiberglass to hold the 6.5's and x-overs. Doors will be sound-deadened as well.

I will be aiming the speakers for better staging/imaging, with the tweets likely going into the a-pillars.

I would like to put the x-overs in the doors (where the map pocket currently is) to show them off because they are very sharp looking!

This post is to hopefully receive some advice as this will be my first install of this magnitude. I could use the most advice on speaker aiming and positioning. If you see any faults her please let me know!

not really much to say other that you have to do some jigs and test enclosude if your very picky about the angleing and position of the drivers. Hard to say if yuour not in the car listening to what the components are doing. Personlay i like to have the tweeter up either in the a piller or on the area that covers the side mirriors. As for the the door panel speakers its all up to where you sit and the size of the enclosure you make for them. Anyhoo have fun !

Common practice would put the mid-bass driver at arm rest height in the door or low and forward in the door. Putting the tweets far away from the mid drivers (in the a pillar) is sometimes OK sometimes not so OK, you really have to listen for yourself in your car (in other words do a mock up prior to gutting your ride. A good set of kicks can be pretty satisfying too.

As far as driver directing that is always a fun time (frustrating since each position is a compromise). You can position the drivers to take advantage of vehicle reflections or you can try to minimize them either way has produced spectacular and very mediocre results.

Frankly I like your plan, don’t be afraid to do the unusual or to copy someone else (there is no shame in reproducing good sound).
