I modified my 97 to fit very deep 6.5's and tweeter higher in the door.
A good jigsaw with a course metal blade works wonders. Then i made the spacers with layers of plywood, lots of glue and cut the door panel to match.
Sound deadener and some wetherspripping to seal and you're good to go.
