2000 Cavalier wiring question
Is there a way around this stinking left speaker door chime?
I got an e2 24 pin connector, the plug is right, the pins are just in the wrong places LOL
after some googling i found that there is a super expensive harness to accommodate the chime.
i could care less about the chime... but these are all i can find
metra part # GMRC-02
scosche part # GM09SR
help .. LOL?

I recommend the Metra's GMRC-02 or Best Kit's GMCO as well. I am also aware that these pieces can be quite costly. Using a standard harness and tapping into the fuse panel for your accessory wire is another option. The only circuit effected is the door chime, not airbags or ABS or any other vehicular function. I have seen the GM wiring diagrams and they confirm this. You will lose the door chime and cause yourself some extra work doing it this way, but it is a possibility.

well, i was just going to wire in an simple aftermarket head unit. the 00 cavalier is w/o onstar
so, I either wire key power or go with the kit. the wiring for the kit looks more convoluted than tapping into key power and using a normal 24-pin harness.
so, radio on til door opens and chime through speaker... stupid design LOL
thanks for the input.. I'll figure out later this evening after work which way to go.

thanks for your help guys. I ended up spending the $90 on a metra GMRC-01
it went smoothly.
came with the external speaker for the chime and only one (key pwr) red needed to be soldered beyond the normal harness to the speaker.
only then did I realize that I had a right rear out. it was the speaker itself but I had to rip the back end of the car apart to swap the pair out in the rear.
