1977 vette dash speakers

as the topic says, i am looking for options for a c3 vettes dash speakers, right now its a 4x6, have any of you installers done anything cool with these (fit a 5 1/4?)? or am i stuck with a 4x6 or a 4" component set...

I would highly recommend you do NOT cut anything.
You're likely to run into brittle vinyl and plastic on an older car, it happened in my Impala and now I have to 'glass a whole new A/C duct system.
Just get a set of kicks done up and put some comps in them, you'll have a better overall sound with kickpanels anyhow.

Door Pods perhaps?
Maybe a fibreglass replacement /build out on the door panels and then the tweeters in the dash?
Maybe just mids in the kicks and tweeters in the dash?
If you build a set of kicks with lots of thickness, you can find some heavier duty grilles and then not worry too much about the durability?
I know when I cut my doors in my Impala, I thought there was no other way around it. Of course, six months later I was kicking myself.
