Well...... Our findings from the high-end CD player shoot out a while ago. The Z-1 Denon placed last when compared to the Nakamichi CD-700, Alpine 7990, Clarion DRX-9255.

The Denon Z-1 was open sounding, wide soundstage and has good depth, other then that..... it was the least dynamic, presents instruments smaller then life, lacks inner details and didn't have quite the black back ground as the Nakamichi & the Alpine. and even the Clarion beat it in the dynamics department. Maybe its better with the balanced outputs?? we never tried it.

I can't see the Mcintosh MX-4000 is less musical then the Denon Z-1.
