Tips and Tricks - Soundstage, Midbass
i'm just wondering, who out there has any tips on how to raise my soundstage and increase midbass output??
my list of equipment can be seen in my sig.
my doors are fully deadened and my components and in the doors and A pillars.
...i've basically reached a point with my sytem where i can't think of what to do next to improve it, and these are two areas i would like to.

i just have my 6.5" driver in stock mount position, which at least isn't too too bad. the car has the angle slightly turned upwards so they aren't firing straight across towards each other. they are about shin level though.
i love the deck, but ya creative tuning is out of the question. which is kinda why i'm stumped. lol.
i'm thinking of possibly getting a third driver on the dash somehow. ...but how would i do that without getting a third amp?
i'm not opposed to driver relocation, but where else could i possibly put those 6.5" drivers? they are beasts:P
MTT, what do you mean by the problem is usually not having it pulled down??
...the issue i have is that there is a noticable distance between the mid and tweeter when you listen closely. i already have the tweeters mounted as low as possible on the A piller while still sounding as ideal as possible. I am actually throwing on another layer of dynamat tomorrow after work, so i will take some pics then if i remember.
as far as midbass....i supposed just fiddle with my crossover points on my amps?
like i said, they are completely sealed off and dynamated.

What brand/ model of car is this?
you either have to buy a processor (which can help with EQ, crossover, and Time Alignment issues). I am assuming you are using the passive crossover that came with the drivers so adventurous crossover points isn't an option either.
or relocate the drivers, sometimes it is easy sometimes not, your system is a purest type system so I am guessing your in the fewer things the better camp.
at the least here is what I would recommend, place the front tweeters in various locations in the car (held in place by duct tape or painters tape) and find out where the best compromise is.
To expand on what MTT was discussing, is there a reason you are noticing the mid-bass driver? Is there a shake, rattle, panel resonance? A kick panel enclosure may serve you better (or not) so you can try the relocation with the mid-bass as well

ya you are absolutley right, the fewer the better. i was thinking possibly an external processor, but i wanted to keep the signal as pure as possible coming off of the McIntosh.
you are correct, i am running passive with the provided crossover. i have no issues with these.
i have zero rattles in my car.
my issue with soundstage is the perceptable difference in height between where the woofer is coming and where the tweeter is coming from.
my midbass issue is because i want to have the bass to appear as if it is coming from the front as well.
aside from putting a sub up front, the only option i can think of is lowering my crossover point on my MLK's.
in doing so however i would need to lower the crossover on my sub to avoid major overlap...but then i'm just missing the punch across a certain range.
from input i have received and just mulling it over, i think that going 3 way up front will solve most of my issues.
it will allow me to raise my soundstage, or at least fill in that gap to get rid of the perceptable distance between woofer/tweeter
and it will allow for me to lower the crossover on the hertz woofer and sub, while still maintaining that punch.
i would just have to ditch the rear speakers that way. which i am not opposed to....i just threw them back there when i upgraded my fronts.
do you agree that going three way up front will solve my issues?
...the only other thing i am going to try in the meantime is to use the alternate tweeter housing for the tweeters. ...they have better low end extension and blend a little nicer with the woofer.....i just never used them because you can't use the angle mount with this housing. and i don't want to pay to do work on my saturn....my stereo is already worth double what it is:S
