Roger Waters on vinyl

Nope....who said records have greater dynamic range?
And the comment about the groove width being too small to get good bass...nope too.
I have a Telarc 1812 disc that'll go to 6 Hz at the cannons. ( I'm still searching for a set-up that will play that adequately)
Dynamic range is not what vinyl is about....60 dB would be excellant. 40 is about what you'll get
Extended frequency response, and a truer "picture" of the original event is the goal.
Digital rules as far as flat response, and a S/N ratio of over 80, but when it comes down to knit-picking, I'll take a picture over a digitally reproduced replica any day! Even if the paper has a few wrinkles.

Defro said something along those lines...
Vinyl definatly has its place.. and it seems anyone who is into audio can appreciate it...
But surface noise pretty much kills any benifit of the purist anolog format IMO... lol 'infinate bit rate' down the atoms.. lol.. let me tell you the surface of a vinyl record is pretty far from perfect sassmaster...
considering CDs have a bit rate that is SOOO good.. you can't tell the difference between that and a super high quality anolog anyway... (ie master disk, or tape)
Vinyl rocks, but CD audio is clearly the superior format...
Now if there was just some decent mastering going down without a **** load of compression in %90 of the CDs made anymore, we would be set.....

Kinda like riding along on a nice hot summer day, and you don't wanna open your windows and enjoy God's air, cause you might screw up the tune you're listening to.......Vinyl is , and always will be superior to CD, ( stipulalted that it has to be good vinyl, played with a good pickup)and needs much more TLC than digital....I mean when you scratch a CD, you can either buff it out, or DL another...but I guess that depends on your opinion of what makes a superior experience.
I've been to 4 live Floyd shows, and the only time I've come close to that on media is on LP.
Maybe just my state of mind at the time, but I'll stick with what I know as fact.

And yeah...if the 98% of digital media was NOT "borowed off someone elses hard drive...maybe it could become the best there is.....but I think that the next breakthrough in technology will be superior to either format.....they already know what it is....they just don't want to waste 20 years of production letting us have it too soon.

I don't see how someone can say CD audio offers 2x the s/n then claim vinyl is still superior.. ???
As you say it's probably something in your head.... more power to ya if it makes you happy...

I've also got
AC/DC-Highway to Hell,If You Want Blood
Johnny Cash Live at Folsom Prison,
Alice Cooper's Schools Out and Welcome to My Nightmare
Nazerth-Hair of the Dog
And of course no 8track collection would be complete without...
Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention-One Size Fits All
And all of them sound clean...well...as clean as an 8 track can sound...
Oh yeah...and somewhere around here I have atape with Eminem,Dr.Dre,Motley Crue,etc...LOL...

Try the best CD copy you can find of The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get....and A/B it against a 1st press vinyl.
Re-mastered or not, the 30 year old magnetics are full of bleed, fade, and other deteriorations.
I do use CD's tho...most of the new stuff is recorded digitally anyway, so the analogue advantage is lost right in the studio.
In Thru the Out Door??? I have 6 copies....with all 6 different covers.....You don't get that kind of art on a CD. Nothing to do with SQ, but it adds to the experience.

again i find myself asking haunz if he has had the opportunity to listen to a good vinyl record on a good system, but again i find myself guessing that he hasnt yet again he feels qualified to make a personal evaluation on something he's never had personal experience with. if i am wrong in this evaluation, i will stand corrected and would like to hear more about your listening sessions with good vinyl. if i am right you may now go away from this thread
