ya that Iphone can put words in your mouth,
i skimmed through the link you proveded, so tell me from
a quick veiw what is so different form this horn design , to what I had built for the 3X show ? It looks very simular. but must read all the details in the description to see.
But u must surely be able to tell me with out going to much work?
It is the clamshell pic with no woofers. 18 X 12 woofers. I would have to take specific measurements to get the info you need, but the exit of the horn was for sure 8 ft from the mic. My number is not as high as this was atm, but my responce is way better, way more flat. I can take a rap type song and play it , then switch to some p***y music at same volume and have virtually same output. then play much loved slipknot and the double drum gives you a concusion... I know for sure the clam would not do this. It loved the rap but the metal was nothing... and it was sealed... so maybe that is its issue. I need to read more thorough.

Keep swatting those flies Dogbaker, Any opinions on pioneers DEX-P99RS yet. I read that when you connect an Ipod/Iphone it bypasses their DAC and goes striaght to pioneers quad DAC's. But the naysayers say that multiple dAC's don't make a difference. Sheesh shouldn't have spent the $$$$.

Tom Danley is a NASA Scientist dozens of patents – his patents on tapped horn finely details the math that couples the energy radiating from both sides of the drivers and brings them into tight compliment (within approximately 1/16 to 1/8 of a wave length). His work is based in refinements made to earlier variants.
Beyond this – the group delays of tapped horns are vastly improved over both ported and sealed! As are the impulse scores... As are system efficiencies...
And one more point worth mentioning, the Xmax utilization is often 20-30% less (at max output) therefore improving power handling and reducing IMD, THD and general phase distortions...
At the very minimum these benefits will be evident:
1. Drivers last longer
2. Sound Better
3. Easier to time align when using multiple drivers - which improves SPL & SQ
In his design, you get the low frequency output of a TL in a much smaller enclosure, with vast improvements in power handling and output... But you can more easily pick your f3. Pick a higher f3 and the box gets much smaller etc...
Think of them as a more compact TL - TL's are able at best, to align front and back waves within 250ms or a 1/4 wave etc... But have Xmax issues and packaging issue (box)
DTH's are able to align waves within a much smaller window of time and therefore improves the efficiency... - SPL
So they are claiming more output - higher mech power handling - better sound - all in a smaller more scalable box...
The paper brings all this into proper focus - this is a very brief summary of a 26 page, high level document.
Dependent of the f3, the boxes can come in at 1/4 the size of a similar performing TL...
So could they be used in SPL competition no question - will they be the loudest in each class - only one way to find out!
I suspect that they will be in some and not others... but which one's - again only one way to find out.
I am not claiming to know - I am simply claiming that if you're looking to try something new, they're at least worth having an objective look!

Yes you asked me to score it from 1 to 10
I give it an 8 - I love the feature and look of the product. I took two points off because reliability is a weak point. Software issues have been afoot for many manufacturers of these items...

Thanks, 2 points for reliability heh. Put a P1 through 1/2 dozen wrecks no prob. You wan't to test it . Pm me an evaluation sheet. Don't want a cooked $1400 deck. Work out some details, I'll send it to you

Speaking of car installs of course. for recognition you should post some installs or links to the DTH, This by far willl reinforce your accusations.
