Get rid of that box...Build one that sits properly and has the subs facing straight forward rather than on an upward angle...also have port on the drivers sider and flared on the outside of the port...and dont carpet it...resin it...oh..and partition it all off from the trunk...the less air needed to be moved the better...

We did some testing and found the air flow in my 89 Cavy(with this current box)travels along the doors, across the windsheild, and creates a nice little pocket right around the sensor,as well as traveling over the roof liner and over the back(where the box is).Walling off the open area above the box was a 2 db gain!

I thank some other people in this thread for some of this info I'm sharing...

Oh and btw...just so it doesnt sound like I'm talking out my a$$.. after 3-4 builds everything from a 3.5 cub 2 10's box to the infamous coffin box(9 cubes)this setup I run now is by far the loudest in my own Cavy...and with almost every tweak, it gets louder and louder...

This pic was taken before all the trim/port work and resin was done, but yu get the idea of the box I'm talking about..

As far as for street use,I built a slide in port to bring down the tuning so I can listen to street music as well...It slips out in a matter of seconds and ready for comp!!

just out of curiosity... what frequency are you using? 60-62Hz?

It may look in the pic like they are on an upward angle but they arent. Im in a fairly easy class because its not considered a wall because it doesnt go past the back window. We also tried sealing off the trunk but lost db so left it unsealed because it uses that air flow for and advantage. All these replies are great and it seems like i should rebuild the box, but I really like the box I have now and feel it would be a lot of money gone to waste if i change. I dont really feel like building a second box just for spl due to the time and amp rack ill have in the trunk.

We also wouldnt of been able to build as big of box that we built. I was just wondering now that you brought up the subject on beefier cables. What if I was to use my existing 4 guage cable to connect the 2 batteries then splice a 1 aup cable into two 4 gauge cables that run to each amp? I just dont want to have to by another 15 feet of really expensive cable because that stuff is 4.75$ a foot. I was thinking about taking out my seats before a competition? And.... I can get a 1 farad metra capacitor for 80$. Would that be something I should also think about?
First off, you said your box is tuned to 53hz for a daily driver Did anyone else catch this

I still get first in most competitions I compete in. I dont really want to build a new box because I like the one i have and it would be a lot of wood to waste as well as time.
And secondly, my box is tuned to 38hz and had people rave on how clean the bass is in my car

yah i saw that 53hz tuning thing but i decided not to bother since he obviously doesnt know much about spl when he said "those boxes must sound bad" and that his is tuned to 53hz and he listens to music on it. 53hz tuning probably sounds worse than all of those boxes put together.

so let me get this straight...you dont want to do anything but you want more spl??? let me know once u've found a way to derive db's from nothing. good luck.

in the mean time here is a realistic way you can gain more spl: get better subs, better amps, a much better box and possibly bigger wire with an extra battery.

thats funny I wish upon a star for more spl under my pillow in the morning.

But ya it take some time to get more spl out of system just trial and error. but that is the way you learn. nothing come easy only through hard work and a couple cases of beer that results will come.
