Hey folks, went and picked up a box of dvd's from storage and my bro was screwing around with my dvd head unit. And i noticed the fact that even at full volume the movies are noticably quieter.
Now this system was never setup for anything other than music originally but what needs to be done to get more volume outta movies???

OK is your DVD player an ALL IN ONE piece or a seperate unit hooked up with a modulator. If its a modulator type setup most of them have a gain control on the little box check that first if that is the case.

Sorry, thought that woulda been told by the signature. But I noticed it hadn't been updated.
The dvd playing along with any and all processing (what little there is) is done by the alpine IVA-W200

You very well could be experiencing the compression differences between the way most music is done versus movies. Remember that mainstream music is generally mastered different than movies. It is really compressed hard for mass production and radio. If it wasn't there would be passages where you would strain to hear stuff...especially in radio. This also helps compensate for the varying radios that are out there from car to home to office...etc. When you deal with SQ CD's they do not do this type of mastering process. They do use compression for sure, but they maintain the dynamics of the original music much more. Movies tend to fall somewhere in between so that explosions sound big and loud and whispers still sound like whispers.
This is possibly what you may be experiencing along with any other receiver thing as well. It really depends on the types of music you play as well, but..you know.
Good luck...hope that you get it figured out!
