Question

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone could help me find out some information about a free sub I got from my uncle that was laying around the house.

Specs:
12" Precision Power
8 ohms
Single Voice Coil
Says "Made in the USA"
It looks similar to a Precision Power PRO-12, but not quite. The base/magnet is more simple on mine.
Fairly old sub.. it was collecting dust.

I put it into a sealed box and hooked it up to a homemade amp my dad made (it makes my 2 10" generic subs pound hard when connected to my computer), but the PPI sub sounds terrible! My car's stock 6x9's have more bass than this. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Or does the sub just suck in general? If all else fails, I'm going to get a 12" Alpine Type R (how do they sound in sealed boxes btw?).

Sorry I don't have any pictures, but I'm sure someone on here might know.. thanks for the replies.

Does it have a flat cone?
The older PPI stuff is nice. you most likly need to give it more pwer or change the box it is in.

It's SVC 8ohm
You will a need pretty powerful amp to get it moving at 8ohm. Like a 1000rms @ 4ohm to get 500rms @ 8ohms.
Or a JL amp, I believe some of their amps have full power @ 8ohms.

BTW what is the power rating of this sub?

Yeah its a flat cone. I have a Panasonic 200watt amp (got it free too!) that will be used to power it.. I hope thats enough? And since when did Panasonic make amps? Model CYM9054.

I didn't expect something like this to require that much power. Oh well, if my amp can't power it I'm just going to not use it at all.

That Panasonic amp (making them since ~'97) is rated at 45x4@4ohm, or 90x2 bridged.

So on one side bridged the sub is seeing abut 45 watts rms.

The sub is likely the PC12. Which looks like the Pro 12 from the front but with a steel basket and a smaller moter. It is rated at 200rms and likes sealed box's 1.25-1.75 and ported 1.75.

Hope this helps

Newbie question, but would the amp be enough to push the sub?
