What could be the problem?
Hey, I hooked up my first system today and everything was GREAT, until we actually turned on the car and heard the subs. I got of a friend of mine that has done a lot of work on cars and their steros to hook up my system for me. We set everything up, the amp powers the way its suppose to - but the speakers arent kickin like they should be. I have a amp rated at 880 RMS, and 2 12' Infinity Dual voice 1230. All i hear is a thump - i dont really feel a difference at all actually with this new setup. When we were done we tryed to play with the setting on the indash i have (Panasonic - dvd) and still no difference. He said the speakers probably arent good - because he was tellin me he has the same sort of setup in his car and everytime he trys and tunes his car his room mate tells him to turn it down (the whole house shakes).
Any advice to help me out. New speakers maybe (i bought them used)?
Thanks in advance. Any advice would be great !!

well...i dont really know too much what im talking about...but how about checking everything thats gone wrong with me when i set up my system....is the sub wired correctly? if the box is homemade is it airtight? settings on amp correct?(gain, crossover, bass boost, etc). and are the subs actually working? u said the amp powered, but nothing about the subs moving...theres lots more, but that should be a good start

yes, the subs were bumping (they seemed like they were working) - and the amp is a 2 channel amp, with a bass **** control, rated @ 1920watts, but 880RMS - probaby in reality a littler (lower than that), but thats what it says in the manual etc. Its an MTX ported box, we checked all the connections, the wires etc .. everything done properly (as we saw it). Grounded properly, connection to the car battery correct, ***** on the amp were played with - we took actions before declarying that it may be the subs

what brand amp ? and did you check the polarity of the subs you know + & - , just in case switch one wire around at the amp and see what happens . ( reverse + & - on just one wire ) also what kind of car ?

Infinity subs in a mtx box may also be the problem . Check online to find the required air space is for the subs then find the air space of the box and compare . If you're off too much , either less or more , this may be your problem , just depends on the tolerance of the speaker . Also what kind of car because for instance a suburbans not gonna sound the same as a civic hatchback .
