I enjoy RE Audio right now. There are lots of companies out there that are amazing but that is just my favourite as of now. You can find them at www.reaudio.com.

there is no 'best'. it all depends on what u want. some companies make really good sounding speakers that cant take much power and some companies make speakers that can take TONS of power but dont sound all that great for music. same goes for car deck, some companies can make a cd player with all the features u want but with little bass it starts to skip, at the same time u can get a cd player that wont skip even if u blow up a bomb inside the car but it might only have half the features of the other deck. Term 'Best' in car audio is VERY relative.
a very important thing to consider is your price range and exactly what u want out of your system.
as far as my personal preferances go i will list them:
Head Units - Alpine and Pioneer
Multemedia - same as above
Speakers - whatever sounds better than stock really
Speaker amp - crossfire, memphis, RF maybe JL Audio
Subs - Digital Design
Sub Amp - Earthquake, Crossfire, DEI maybe RF and Zapco.
Accessories - whatever rca's u can find, they are all prettu much the same
Power Cables - I use 1/0 welding cable b/c it's 10 times cheaper than the hyped up fancy car audio cables and it works better.

The question is not which company is best. The question is which company sucks the least.
I like Elemental Designs, yet at the same time they **** me off. Great products, questionable reliability. But they sure do make one hell of a subwoofer.
I'm also very interested in Eclipse, but it's hard to trust a company that posts complete nonsense for their specifications.
For amps, I still like my Rockford Fosgate. I'm using Avionixx right now, and they are very good for the price, but again reliability seems to be an issue. Ultimately I'd love to run MMATS amps, but they are very hard to find for a decent price.
For source units and signal processing I'm a big fan of Clarion. With so many choices out there I think you sort of have to decide which company suits you best, and stick with them, or else you could go nuts buying a different product every three months. Anyway, I love my Clarion stuff. I'm sure Alpine and Pioneer are at least as good, but I've found a great product and I'm sticking with it, at least for now.
The point is, you'll never know which company is "best" until you've tried them ALL, and that's when you realize that they're all pretty much variations of the same damn thing, and you've been wasting your time and money chasing this illusion of the "ultimate" car audio product.

I've been very happy with Xtant amplifiers and their customer service. They have a live chat option on their web page and they answer their emails quickly and comprehensively. I would certainly say that Xtant could be put in the, 'you get what you pay for' category.
RE has a lot of hype going for it right now. Why is it that it's so sexy at the moment???

Here's a few company's to look at;
http://www.carsound.com/web_guide/alpha.shtml
Research each of these and you will have a pretty basic idea of who the players are these days. Some really nice companies not listed there though.
