W7 vs concept CSP-15...

The W7 , is an awesome sub , given enough juice but ya'll heard that b4 . True it is little overpriced on the retail level by places such as ASD but they are more so worth it when you can get a cheap deal on em like at Radioactive , per say , with sweet deals on 1000/1 , don't go 500/1 unless you're ported . Don't go with the H.O box unless you want to be retired with a hearing aid at 25 years of age , it's way too booomy nyways .
However , there are many , many explored and unexplored subs that when they are good ,tried and tested do as well deserve all respect . Furthermore , for the full retail price of a W7 there are subs that you could buy in doubles or triples that will most certainly outpreforme the
W7 in many ways . I often wonder what it would be like to own two IDmax's as opposed to the one 12W7 but am sure the sub will sound just fine If not exceptionl when I up the alternator , sub and port the box , fkng scary .
Dingaling , Dingaling ...
giligan , you are more den welcome to come by an audition a W7 . I'd love to heard your crazy closet of a sub box , especailly wid those old Vegina Strokers , upss I ment Vega . Pssy is always on my tongue , upps MindIment .

Ok, guess I'll have to explain this better as some people have conceptualization problems.
There are various levels of speaker vendors, they include:
1) Zero R&D. This company picks up a catalog from an OEM supplier and chooses a driver that looks good for their needs and then orders them from the OEM with their own label on them. This is not necessarily bad - for example the high end Alpine 'scan-speak' drivers. Quite often your cheesiest stuff is in this catagory though.
2) Minimal R&D. This company comes up with a spec they want the woofer to fit such as: 12", 300rms, 1cuft sealed, 60oz magnet. They then hand this over to an OEM who comes up with a unique design using off the shelf parts. The company gets and approves a prototype and the OEM catalogs that combo as ABC company's unique design and won't sell it to anyone else. This is a small category cuz they either move into the next one or fall in the the previous one.
3) Complete R&D. This company comes up with a full set of T/S operating parameters. They select cone profiles, top plate thicknesses, everything. They have little to no manufacturing capability though so they either go to a single source OEM and have that exact woofer made, often with some generic parts like spiders or magnet rings and have it shipped to them as a finished piece. Otherwise they select numerous manufactures to make or supply individual parts or assemblies whether generic like baskets or custom like specific coil and or cone assemblies and then they put it together. Most of the companies people know as big names fit right here.
4) OEM. These guys do it all or almost all. They design the thing from the bottom up, design each part, and then make each part or commission a specialty vendor to make their exact part. The difference here is the OEM makes most of thier own parts. There are VERY few companies with this capacity and most do not even sell thier own branded product or it is a very small part of their business.
That's about it. It would be interesting to see where people thought their favorite brand fit in...
