I will be buying one of these two amps and running it at 2ohms to a single 16Ov2 in a ported enclosure tuned to about 34hz.

Due to my weak alternator, full tilt is usually 12.5-13.5v at full tilt.

Both cost about the same.

(I dont plan on burping below 2ohms or anything like that... and I dont really see myself having to upgrade in the near future, or having to strap amps) The subsonic filter on the viper is nice, but isnt totally necessary.

Which should I get? Convince me.

I have upgraded the big three so no worries there.

I have a thread on ICIX too, rockford seems to be winning there. I dont have experience with DEI/Viper/Orion, or Rockford so I have to go with what people say.

The thing that concerns me most is the quite large power difference of the two amps at 2ohms. I belive its 775wrms (Rated for the Viper) vs an actual 1100 or so for the Rockford at 14v (and still around 900wrms at 12.5v).

wagonized, that's a pretty bold statement. why is it a better amp? better quality parts? more reliable? more efficient (given this seems to be a criteria)?, better features?, size? better SQ?
give up some of that knowledge.

mik are both these amps new or used?

The rockford is used and the viper is new, but ive had much more communication with the seller of the RF in the past.

The only things the viper seems to have over the RF is the following (Strappable - I dont care, Subsonic filter - not necesary if youre careful and have a low tuned box.. been there done that, the fact that it has built in fuses - big deal, and that its new).

Neither of them would have warranty anyways I would assume.

The RF is a smaller footprint, more power for the load im going to be running, and the efficiency of both is about the same. I guess I've more or less answered my own question, unless someone can provide a better arugment why the Viper would be a better choice (and possibly a benchtest?).

IMO a directed amp is of much higher build quality than the last few years RF products hands down. The Viper will put out more power regardless of what the ratings are.

You can count on a good 1250-1300 wrms @ 1ohm from the viper amp.
</font>
Is NOT being run at 1ohm. Thats the difference.

I though we were talking about a 1200.1, at 2 ohms.
