Turning off Subwoofers

Is it possible to turn off the subwoofers when playing music, for example when pulling into a neighbourhood at say 2am? I wouldn't want to wake up neighbours and make them mad . I don't want to turn off the whole system, just turn off the subs and keep the mids, and tweeters going.

depending on the deck you could, or wire a switch into the remote wire. or just turn it down

Well wiring in a switch is what I was thinking of doing, but I didn't know if it would damage the amp if I just cut power to it or just cutting power to the subs thus creating no load on the amp. I was thinking problems may arise if I did that. Also, I'm not exactly sure what the remote wire is..

I didn't exactly want to "just turn it down" but that's fine if I have to do that.

Do you know of any decks that specifically support it?

You buy an advanced deck, it has sub level on and off.
Best purchase I made.

What deck is it that you own that does that?

For anyone; is there there anything specific that I'm looking for that will say that a deck supports this feature?

My last bottom-of-the-barrel Kenwood did that ... my Alpine does that now ...
Pretty sure it's a common feature ...

I think the cheapest option would be the remote switch ... either through a bass **** or some sort of amp control remote, otherwise the most CONVENIENT option would be through the deck.

All you need to do is put a simple switch on the blue remote wire between the head unit and the amp. It will usually be labelled on the wire, and it will be connected to the "remote" connection on your amp. It won't hurt your amp to do this and it is much simpler and cheaper than buying a new head unit. Go to your amp and follow the wire back, if you're having a hard time finding it.

Thank you for the simple instructions!
