Sub question
I am a total noob at audio stuff....but I like how its sounds so....its a learning process...haha
I have a question about types of subs....
I'm running a Kenwood KAC 929 amp....which is 1000W max and i think 400W rms....
Whats the difference between 2-ohm and 4 -ohm subs? and which one should i be getting for this amp?
I currently have 2 12" earthquake subs in my car but I have no idea what kind of ohm they are.....one blew recently and I'm looking to replace it....want to get the right sub kind....
thanks

According to Kenwoods website that amp is rated as follows.
150w x 2 @ 4 Ohms
or bridged
460w x 1 @ 4 Ohms
It does not appear to be stable @ 2 Ohms when bridged.
So you either need two single voice coil 2 Ohm subs wired in series @ 4 Ohms
or
Two dual voice coil 4 Ohm subs wired @ 4 Ohms.
This is assuming you want to keep 2 subs.
Hope that helps.

Hey guys,
A followup here.....I have been looking around at suitable choices very carefully......
so far there seems to be a concensus from audio shops that Clarion is a bad brand to go with...lol
So my question is......with my amp, is 2 Alpine type S's (SWS-1222D) the right subs for me?
they are dual voice....but they are 2-ohm....would this be compatible coz thats what one audio shop recommended.

Who says Clarion is bad?? A shop that does not carry them. They perform better then most and just as good as a pioneer, Kenwood ect. With that amp just get one PXW1051 or PXW1251 for under $150 taxes in and you will be all good.

/\ ...what he said....
Clarion doesn't aim for the SPL records....their stuff will get loud enough to damage your hearing while still sounding good.
From what I've seen, they are heading into the in-car entertainment scene in a big way....it takes a pretty decent quality system to go for THX certification and that includes bass.
