Starter Problem
#1
its a brand new compustar starter in a 97 huyndai elantra. half the time the car does not start. the egnition comes on but the engine is not cranking, other time it will crank but wont turn over, and other times it starts fine.
this is a starter/alarm combo.
any ideas? the brain unit has been swapped and it does the same thing?

Improperly soldered wire, bypass problem if the unit has a bypass module. Not powering up a second ignition line perhaps. Lots of things to consider. What is the version of the software on the brain and what model# is the brain?

it was done at a shop that installs alot of these things, i dont know anything about starters so i would not do it myself.
i checked for the hood pin but its not a pin but rather one of those things with a rolling weight in it....played with it and seemed to make no diff.
what it does alot is cranking but not turning over, or turning over on like a 5th try.
any more ideas?
westec i dont think its the tach button, the brain unit was swapped.

i think your trying to say that it cranks but it dosn't fire right?
most units have two fuses did you check them
if not i would suspect a faulty connection
you know the only way to install a remote starter is with scotch locks
and thats probably why they do lots of them
