Lookin' at some subs RE's
#1
Hey guys thanks for all the help on getting me on my way to getting my system back together. Now if anyone remembers I was looking at buying a JL W712 and a few of you gave me a couple of other choices to think about. So I think I'm gonna give RE a try. What I was wondering was should I go with 2 SX 12's or one XXX 12, remember this all on a budget or I would just buy 2 XXX's. Will I notice a diff between the two? SQ, SPL , overall quality? For an amp I just bought a Hifonics XX Hercules. I will be building my own box to suit my needs and whatever sub(s) I choose needs. I'm kinda leaning towards the two SX's but that opinion isn't really based on much.

2 subs will be louder than one. the XXX is a little higher end sub, made to have great SQ and still get loud as hell. id probly go with the single XXX since you could throw a lot of power at it(not sure how much power that amp puts out) and it will sound great. have you considered a single XXX 15?

Depening on the car 1 12" will be plenty loud. The XXX is much closer on par with the W7.
Make sure you port the box low (30-35hz)
I have sets of subs for SPL but for daily driving I only use 1.
2 subs is too much for me, and i'm a young bass head, hehe.

Both are great subs. They can both hit the lows with authority and can blend in seemlessly with many systems.
Will you notice a difference in sq? That depends on the listener.
As for SPL, the SX will actually be a bit louder on the mic with less than 1500rms. With more power the XXX will overtake it.
I'm not sure on the specs of your amp. I looked it up and I got conflicting results.
Be aware that either driver comes in a standard dual 2ohm coil configuration. Either can be had with custom coils but that will be another $25 per driver.
That in itself may be a choosing point as to running one sub or two.

First I would like to knw if you are looking to compete in SPL or SQ or are you just trying to get a daily driver together. If you would like some more info just email me at shockingspl@yahoo.com or PM me.
KingRukus - The optimal box size for a XXX12 is 2.1 cubic feet with a port tuning to 28hz for a XXX15 its 4 cubic feet with a port tuning of 27HZ and for a XXX18 its 7.5 cubic feet with a port tuning of 30hz.

Again thanks for the help guys. The car I will be putting them into is a '97 VW Golf. It will be my daily driver but I have also given some thought to maybe entering into some SPL comps this year, nothing major just to see what I can do, but mostly to learn lots along the way. The only specs I could really find on the amp are listed on their site..
1 X 1300 @ 2 ohms
1 X 2000 @ 1 ohm
Now I don't know if thats RMS or Max or how they even came up with that number...what voltage etc.
Hardwrkr you brought up a good point about the voice coils....I was thinking getting them in 1 ohm setup, what do you think?

Ok I just bought the 2 SX 12's with dual 1 ohm setup. Oh and I found out that the Hifonics XX Hercules amp is 2,000 watt RMS, not much info out there on this thing so I hope it works for what I want. Next step...save some more money hehehehe without the wifey finding it.
