JL 8W7 or Infinity Kappa Perfect 12?
#22
To PSIVIC:
Unfortunately, there is a big chance that I will never know myself how the 8W7 sound in my car as I now want to buy the 10W7!
I am probably gonna get a JL 500/1 in the next few days. This way,I will have more flexibility in my choices of subs as power requirement and sub impedance, in most case should not represent a problem.
My future car sound system will represent an investment for the next couple of years. So for this reason I decided to do the less compromises possible and fork the extra dollars. Maybe I could be really happy with the 8W7 (especially if I buy a hatchback), but with a 10W7, I think I am gonna meet all my expectations (impact, deep notes, musical fidelity and output) in one package.
But if I am decided on my bass amp, I can still change my mind for the sub.
From JL Audio, there is now three possibilities: 10W7, 12W6v2 and the 8W7.
From Infinity: The new Kappa Perfect 12VQ.
From Eclipse: SW8122.4.
I will ask members of this board on their opinions.
Like the say, only foul can't change their mind!
To Dukk an Pinhead,
Thanks a lot for the infos. I am excited as the Mazda 3 was our first choice.

The Infinity is a fine driver. If one can nab an 8W7 for the same bux though, I would.

It is amusing because the Infinity is IMO a better choice than some of the woofers you mentioned.
Is that clear?

Thanks scarlemthug,
I never listened to the 12W6v2 serie but I listened to the 10W7 this week. The sub was in a trunk of a Subaru WRX and was really, really loud and hitted like a hammer. It maybe gonna be even to loud and punchy for my taste. Especially if I decided to go with a hatchback.
There are reviews of both subs by the same guy (Eric Holloway, I think) and he said after having reviewed both that the 12W6v2 was the best sub he ever tested for his magasine. In his review of the W7, he said that at high volume, the bass kind of became really proeminant at the detriment of the rest of the frequencies. After my experience with the W7 I kind of agree with him.
So now I have to listened to a 12W6v2 and the 8W7 (I could try this one in my car with the ProWedge enclosure) when I am gonna have my amps.
If neither really impress me, I will try Infinity and/or Eclipse.
I will give you a feedback.
