Seeing as you have probably all the electrical knowledge, taking Mobile D probably isn't worth it for you. It's more geared towards ppl who don't have any background. Get the MECP on your own and work at a Best Buy or a Future Shop - turnover is high at those two places and although they are not regarded as "high end" installation facilities (although I know Derek or Tim B and others would disagree 'cause they ARE high end)but the experience there is great. From what I understand, you need some experience time before you take the AEAT - but correct me if I'm wrong.

If you'd still like to attend Mobile D, by all means do so. They have great instructors - Derek, Matt, Cam... Matt was on the canadian team that competed in the installer challenge in vegas earlier this year and used to frequent this board too!

Anyhow, goodluck on becoming an installer!

To some who took the course, and didn't pay attention, or had different expectations I can understand their negative opinion, however it's a great stsrt for someone who is not sure about their capabilities.
The course is fast paced, because most people ought to remember simple formulae that they took in high school, and hopefully graduated.
im familiar with derick from when he was head of alpine car audio
do you remeber the tech letters they sent out
i still have all of mine
the people who worked for me that took the course and were looking to learn something
the course is well is overpriced in my opion
i have been there for several industry seminars and generally came out learning more from interacting with other people there than what they taught me

I've known Derek for the same amount of time , and I still say the it's because of people like him that this industry is where it is, give him credit where due, no one else at the time thought of training installers, nor went to bat for us in court. As for personal opinions of each other, I'd say again, that next to computers and cars this is the most opinionated industry in the world .
So prior to discouraging anyone from taking an installation course of any kind, qualify the individual, and ask the company giving the course if they have some kind of refund policy, most credible institutions like Mobile Dynamics may give you a certain time to opt out, that's good business ethics, and you don't stay in business long by shafting people, Mobile Dynamics has been in there a long time, and are opening a new western location soon from what I hear.
And BTW, I thought I was the False god of audio , when did I get dethroned?

the reason i feel the course is over rated is that there are no apprenticing you go there for a couple weeks
and bang your a master installer
thats what the kids coming out of there portray
i feel the course does no more than get there feet wet
they have no practical knowlage coming out of there
would i let one loose on a car just because they are mecp certified
no way
