home made interconects

im thinking i may just give it a try and make some twisted or braided inters. my only Q is, if i do twist how do i make sure it doesnt just untwist? and for braiding, you use all 4 wires? the only braiding ive seen/done was with 3. so could someone clear that up for me? what is stranded wire? could you use speaker wire? and last one, where do i get clear tubing to cover the wires? what size of tube would you need? WOW that was a few Q's...
Thanks

I get really nice, high-tension RCA's (made by Canare, Japan) for about C$2.00 each. Then there's the trick-looking, braided stainless cable sheath (about C$2.00 per foot). Put 'em together, coat with that trick, neoprene heat-shrink tubing, and you'd have the same stuff I use when I build tube amps.
With the teflon-coated wire, you might have to wind it really tight to start with, as the memory of teflon can make it want to straighten out again.....
HK is a great place to get parts!!!!
Just bought three mulit-meters today (they will be fitted into a demo car) that read voltage, temperature (C or F) plus all the usual functions. Nice big display with LED illumination. Paid less than C$10 each.

^ That must be pretty cool to be exposed to all the stuff they have over there, and for as cheap as it is, that we don't have over here. Definitely a new experience eh?
WD21, if you twist up the wire so it has a nice tight twist, meaning you get the wires almost 90 degrees to each other where they cross, they won't untwist. What I do is twist them up, then keep them fixed in the drill but take them out of the vice. They will untwist a little over their length but still stay nice and tight. When twisting, keep the wires tight. I use regular 'alarm wire' or 'hook-up wire' and cover them in clear tubing I bought at Rona. They have different sizes.
Here is a pic of one I made:
Here is some yellow and black wire I made up too, but without ends on it yet:

ok so i figure i would try and make some inters tommorow. i picked up 100ft black 18 GA wire, 100ft red 18 ga and two 18 inch Tsunami inters, b/c they have really nice ends and where 2.51 each. so i got home and tried some braiding on a 4 short pieces. well to say the least, i havent figured that one out yet. so, when braiding, how many wires do you use? like i said, i use 4(2 left, 2right). but im thinking it may just be easier if it twist em. can anyone get me a pick of there braided inters?
Thanks,
Dallas
