So you support the local economy. I think that's great. (no, not being sarcastic!) However there is a huge number of people who have turned their backs on it.
I used to work at the largest independent store in all of Ottawa. We are known for having a large high-tech base and a huge government sector. This still wasn't enough to sustain the store. Everyone wanted to buy cheaper produts on-line or go directly to the company. (Immagine trying to compete with Alpine for price on a HU!)
I'm not saying it's right, but the situation is what it is.
You can choose not to give advice to the users but there is always someone else who will do it if you don't.

I've learned my lesson - I buy everything I can locally so that in case I run into a problem, I don't have to spend all sorts of money on shipping or travel to get it fixed - I've been burned too often...
