Chadxton..... that price Mark quoted is MSRP in Canadian bucks. We actually don't buy it though. An orge named Shriek delivers it to our door magically. So the mark up is a Billion ............. no, no...... zillion percent.
If I may comment, I've heard the Utops and I've run the Iridiums. THEY SOUND DIFFERENT. Now, who's set is truer to the original recording............. that's the real question. I'd say factor in that nuance and cost and you can then make a decent choice. But for reproduction of the original material, you have to decide that for yourself. Price, well that's the easy part to figure out ....... pick up a phone.

Is there someone, that has the Iridium set, so I can make a comparison for myself. I don't want to do a full out SQ judging just a listen for tonal accurracy vs the utopia's.
I can tell you right now though, without even hearing the DLS set that the Utopia midrange can create some of the best midbass I've heard, and would be hard to beat. 500 to 6K with a 12db slope off a DQT and they are VERY accurate.
I can rarely hear huge differences between midrange speakers anyway, unless you go from one extreme to another...like the 165W to the Audiom 6W. HUGE difference....the 6W is so incredibly fast and accurate it blows the 165W out of the water....but you'll want to have a good midbass driver, whereas with the 165W, it wouldn't be needed.
I find that the difference between comp sets is found in the tweeters. I have heard from numerous people that the Iridium tweets are very bright. As are the TN-51 Focal's....with a decent Parametric EQ or good graphic eq they can sound quite nice though. I'm sure the same is true on the DLS set if what I hear about them is true.
I have not personnally heard the Canton set in a car so I can't comment. How come nobody mentioned the SEAS Lotus set? THat's quite possibly the best value out there right now.
For the price of the Utopia's or less you can get the set with the silk dome tweets that sound absolutly amazing. I've heard them with very little EQ and passive X-overs and was impressed...which doesn't happen a lot after hearing so many comp sets in the last couple years.

...I´d say the cantons are quit a bargain. Here they sell below 200 can$.
lately they beat the DLS Basic,Hifonics 6.2C,JL Audio 650 CSi, Focal 165 V 2 as well as Cerwin-Vega HED 2652 by lightyears in a direct confrontation. There were some other brands as well, you probably never heard off, since we have wuite a few speaker manufacturers in Germany.
You should also check this babes out (my favourite) selling here below 200 can$ as well:

What we need to know is, are you talking about the current QS 2.16 or the older CS 2.16 ?
heres the canton web site

And I heard from Jason and Brad that the Iridiums are bright. Apperently they both heard Scott Buwalda's Altima and they said it was bright...they also heard another car( forget who's it was) they also said it was bright....I have not heard them, so I will not judge them untill I do. I'm only stating what I have heard....so I guess what I'm saying is, don't get pissed off at me because I'm stating what I heave heard from numerous people.I'm not the one who said they were bright.

Personally, I'm willing to live with a bright tweeter if it sounds good.
There are many very good tweeters with natural peaks in the 12khz region that sound very good with music.
My Focal TN 51s measure the best I've ever seen a tweeter measure in my car. When measured from the center of the car, they are pretty flat right out to 20k with very little deviation when compared to some of the other tweeters I've had in the car. If it was only this simple.
The tweeters that looked horrible on my RTA sounded better than the TN 51 in the car. And I don't need a car to make my point either. I hooked up a wire to one of my amps with banana plugs and held the tweeters outside the car doing the switcherooo! I basically stuck the tweeters right in from of my face and played a little Dire Straits. Once again the Focal was not as articulate or natural in it's presentation of music.
Off to the RTA again, this time to measure the tweeters outside of the car. Once again the TN 51 looked waaaay better.
What's to learn from all my rambling?
Don't trust the graphs, the specs, or crazy Adam's rants. Use your own ears, and don't talk about other's opinions as if they are your own.
Give yourself credibility by stating your own oppinion. Leave others to make their own statements.
If anyone wants to put a pair of Raven R1s into their dash, give me a call. I'd love to hear what these can do in a car.
