Ok next time I get a new deck I want to do it my self. So what are the basics i'm going to need to know? And what kind of tools will I need to take apart my dash and to wire the new deck up. This will be my first install of a deck and I know nothing about wiring. I do know to disable the battery and i’m most likely going to need wire stripers right. If theirs a sight that gives step be step instructions that would help greatly.

 

Ok and i’m also looking for an install kit that won't stick out like my last one did. I have a pop holder right below the deck and it’s the only one in the car that still works. So I need this to be useable still.

 

its fairly simple to install a deck. just get the appropriate wiring harness and you should be fine. you can probly find a good step to step guide on google or something if you search.

 

first find a friend that has done something like this before to help.

tools you might want to have
various screw driver
maby some wrenches
electial tape
sodering gun and heat srink tubing (you dont need to have this but it makes better connection)
wire stripper
assorted wire connectors
fuses(lots of extra's if its your first time)
speaker wire
***** make sure you have a test light***
and lots of time and patience

taking apart the dash usly isnt that hard and is normally held in with 5 or 6 screws.make sure you remember where the screws came from when you take them out

k would liquid electic tape work. i saw this stuff at true value and thought it would make the job easier. i didnt pick it up cause i wasn't sure. shrink tube, could get that stuff at true value? and as for a friend who has done this before. gee thats gonna be a hard one. all of my friends are newbs to car audio. i might get lucky and be able to get my dads friend to help me. if i ask him now i should have the deck in by say next september(all the electritions i know are very busy). so say if i try and do this with a friend(no expeince at all with this stuff). should i risk installing the deck my self or should i wait untell i can get my dads friend to help me.

 

ive never herd or used liquid tape so i cant comment on it.

heat srink tubing can be picked up at true value ,canadian tire etc. its not that expencive its you dont need to use it unless your sodering wires togther.

do some searching on the internet and im sure youll find some kind of tutorial.

if you are buying a new deck ask the sales guy for a wire harness and dash kit for your car. you might get lucky and you might not have to do any wire cutting its kinda plug and play

Stick to regular tape, lol. I hardly ever use the liquid stuff as I don't have all day to sit around waiting for things to dry.

 

im pretty sure i might have to cut some wires cause i did for my last one. so i guess if i use that tape stuff i will be using it at my own risk.

edit: k i won't use that stuff cause i want to use my system like the same day i get it.
