To tell you the truth I would much rather have a deck that performs over a deck thats just all show and no go. I think its safe to say that there are alot of decks being made that are marketed for their flashy lights and motorization, rather than putting that money into taking the performance to a higher level. I mean it is the beginning of the signal chain right? </font>[/QUOTE]I agree, I've always loved the minimalist look, plain, simple, and easy to use. Unfortunatly, there are not too many of these decks out there in comparison to the 'flashy' ones. Most decks have flashy screensavers and bright blue displays.. I'm sure if they traded up those organic displays and LCDs, it could easily pay for some 20 bit dacs, hi-volt outs and a simple face plate.

 

i learned the hard way going for a flashy deck. i had a panasonic deck back when they first started getting popular. the thing sounded like ish! and the pre-outs kept blowing. plus those flashy displays don't work very well when it's below -5c outside.
go for a quality deck, then buy some neon lights and strobes for the bling.
for the most part, flashy decks lack quality. IMO

Alpine F1 - not so plain but still purdy
