If I was to start over again in my own vehicle with a limited budget this is what I would do.
Start with an Alpine/Clarion head unit.
grab a set of Coustic/JBL coaxil speakers to run up front(whatever fits in stock location).
I would try to find a nice, used, ARC 5150 CXL or any decent 5 channel amp.
I would then buy(because it's one of my favourite sub set-ups) a Kicker Comp VR 12 in the Kicker pre-fab box.
Don't kid yourself however, this all sounds great and everybody has good suggestions.....You still need to wire all of this new equipment.
Every single person that has posted has forgotten to mention wiring. You may spend 1500-2000 bucks on all your equipment but you'll have no way to listen to it cause you forgot wiring....don't let anyone fool you when they try to tell you that it doesn't really matter what kind of wiring you have. BS. If you skimp out and buy crap wire..in a few months your wiring could screw up and cause you a world of headaches.
Get decent wire and actually take the time to wire properly. You don't need to get crazy with it(check MY install pics so far) and rip your interior out, but make sure you have good connections everywhere. Oh, and take your time.....do not rush and work around things.
