from what I've seen and heard, most canadian distributors and therefore retailers have to buy their stuff from american distributors, so they have to pay more, because shipping, tarriffs, taxes, duties, etc, etc, etc. not to mention that american retailers get product for the same price as canadian distributors.

Actually, I am seeing prices on some products in Canada being listed for the same dollars as they are in the US... We are FAR more competitive up here, and that's why so many small shops with limited business skills can't compete on price alone.

I always find 1 local person who does it for the love of doing it wherever i am. I go and buy all my little accessories i need last minute(fuses, bits of wire, connectors).
dont need no fancy show room(in fact i dont think any of my fav shops have had a "show room")

lesson learnt from all this..........dont come on CCA asking for online retailers b/c u gonna get slaughtered and flamed till no tomorow.
he asked a simple question and NO ONE provided the right answer.
as of right now there are no current online Canadian retailers......maybe these guys will be back up soon again http://www.genuinecanadianaudio.com/ but for now i would go to eBay
Good luck.

This is due to the fact that Canadians seem to have much more integrity that the Americans do when it comes to honouring dealer agreements that prohibit us from selling on-line. In the US, these scourge are a dime a dozen. I for one value my reputation, integrity and that of my store. 95% of manufacturers have it in their dealer agreements that we are not to sell on line, this leaves but few companies left that we could retail on line and a captive audience with limited brands to limited people is just not a good business move.

Sometimes the stuff you get from the US isn't worth it.
I was going to order a Group 31 Yellowtop from the US and after I factored in shipping, duties, taxes and brokerage fees it was going to be about 15 bux more than what Perfect Tones is going to charge. So I'm going to get my battery from them.
Don't forget about the duties and stuff, they will kick u in the a ss if you aren't expecting them.

I really like the 12-Volt industry, however greed and over saturation has beaten down this industry. The US retailers can survive this over saturation because of the concentration of Population. Remember that there are just about as many people in the State of California as there are in Canada.
I believe that greed plays a large roll in the prices of the products in Canada, and just so I am clear, I do not believe that it is the Retailers that are being greedy. The distributors and (Middle-Men) trying to make at least their 100 points on the product, with less overhead than the retailers is the biggest problem. The US retailers are also not dealing with the greed of a distributor, everyone pays the same price. (No duty, no frieght, no brokerage, no insurance, and no storage fees.)
I cannot speak for all manufacturers however the ones that I have dealt with do let me buy directly, at a price less than US Dealer Cost, and while the costs of shipping are significant, the distributors should not be trying to make money on this as well. It is the retailers that pay for their own shipping that do the best, because it is an actual cost, not a cost that is calculated by a distributor and then marked up or doubled to cover any unforeseen adjustments (gas prices). Retailers should make the distributors accountable for these costs.
I hope the Industry rebounds from this depression, some retailers are doing quite well but many are struggling to stay alive. A significant number of 12-Volt manufactures have pulled out of the Canadian Market do to lack of interest. Most distributors in Canada are receiving daily calls from 12-Volt Brands asking if they would distribute their products. Much like the retailers, the distributors can only support a few lines each. In short we just don’t have the numbers to try out every brand in Canada.
