New to alarms, help!

I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I purchased a Compustar 900 remote start control module, I don't understand when it says "Parking light 250 mA negative(-) output. The proper wire will test (-) when the parking switch is on."

How do I test for negative? I have a multi meter and when the parking light switch is on it reads 12 volts when off the same wire has continuity to ground, I am totally confused!. Is there a tutorial that explains the basics.

Obviously I just don't understand the basic idea here if someone could explain it, then I should be good to go.

Thanks Bruce

Asking wrong question, maybe.

Maybe its easier if someone could tell me if they were hooking up there remote start/alarm to the negative wire of the parking light circuit where would they do that? Literally the ground at the physical light location? There are 3 wires that go to the front parking light one is hot when light is on, the other 2 are grounds all of the time.
